The idea to honour fathers and celebrate fatherhood originated from the United States. A woman called Sonora Smart Dodd was encouraged by American celebrations of Mother's Day to plan a day to honour fathers as well. This Day was thus created to make Mother's Day seem appropriate and more attractive when celebrations honouring dads are organized. This day remembers all Fathers, Grandfathers, great Grandfathers and Father figures for their role in influencing the behavior or development of their children. On this day we celebrate fatherhood and male parenting, paternal bonds and influence of fathers in the society. All dads want to be the best father they can. Father has a very important role in a child's life. Absence of him in child's life can lead to severe negative impacts upon a child's personality and psychology whereas his presence can have a significant role to play in child's behavior or development.

The officially recognized date to celebrate this occasion varies from country to country. In other words, it is not celebrated on the same day world over. Many countries celebrate this event on the third Sunday in June month. In India and US, it is celebrated on the same day. Father's Day 2017 India is on 18th June. This event is celebrated worldwide to acknowledge the contribution that the dads make towards their children.

On Father's Day, children make special efforts to express their emotions for their dads. Some people visit their father while others give cards, mugs, wallets, other gifts such as clothing, home dcor items etc. Celebration of Father's Day varies from a simple phone call or sending greeting card or arranging parties honouring all fathers. Fathers can include father, step- father, father-in-law, grandfathers, great grandfathers and other male relatives.

In India, Father's Day is celebrated on a smaller scale in comparison to the celebrations in western countries. People living in metropolitan cities and bigger towns in India have greater exposure to the culture of western countries and thus have greater awareness of events on this day and associated celebrations with this occasion. Many people get together, sing Father's Day song(s), share speeches, prepare meals, distribute gift(s) and any other activity whether indoor or outdoor to make them feel special on this day. It is important for people wanting to eat out in a restaurant on Father's Day to consider booking in advance because restaurants may get busier than usual as many people would be taking their father out for a treat.

A father's love, oh how sweet! Mother's love is often thought of as colourful, warm and tender but we are reluctant to consider father's love and affection in the same shade. Regrettably, that was not God's intent. God always intended for a father's love to complement mother's love.

In the recent times, there has been some acknowledgement of the great need for boys to have a father and importance of his love in their daughter's healthy development. For children, be it son or daughter, father is always a hero. Because, he is a person who knows what is on your mind. A dad can be one of your best friends. He will always be proud of your achievements. Fathers, your children need your intense loving. They need your hugs, kisses, smiles and ever present energy. The best gift a father can give to his children, is to love their mother.

Children are always proud of their father and Always miss Him when he is not around. Fathers are an intensely loving human beings. They do everything that is possible to ensure that his children are always happy, safe and comfortable.
